What is Larger Than Life?

In 1995, a Rubenesque mother/daughter team opened Dallas's first exclusively Plus Size resale shop.  Years later, we are still the only such animal in Dallas.  In that time, we have partnered with thousands of consignors to provide a fun, bright, well-stocked and friendly store for fashionable plus sized women to find excellent values in current-styled clothing.  Offering everything from underwear to evening wear, we can fill your shopping needs.

Brief History, and a Fond Farewell to the Founders

Mom Bencey Bryan and kid Kat Krone were both fired from different jobs on the same day, October 6, 1994.  Bencey had been the marketing director for a small publishing firm, and Kat had been the Executive Director of the Dallas Screen Actors Guild office.  Deciding to laugh in the face of adversity, the pair went out to a fancy restaurant that evening - on Kat's expense account, of course - and discussed the idea they had been thinking about for several months.  After the second glass of wine, they agreed that something was telling them it was time to open that plus-sized resale shop they'd been considering.  After six months of extensive study, reading and planning, Larger Than Life-Rubenesque Resale opened on tax day, April 15th, 1995.

Kat Krone (aka "The Kid")

Kat worked for over eight years as the Executive Director of the Screen Actors Guild/AFTRA Local in Dallas.  This followed 6 years with national SAG in LA.  She enjoyed representing actors in their dealings with producers and ad agencies, being their "union goon" and seeing that their rights were protected.  Despite the falling out with her local Board of Directors that led to her . . . shall we say "availability" to open Larger Than Life, she still has a fond place in her heart for performers.

She holds an MBA in Arts Management/Labor Relations from UCLA (1980) and a BA magna cum laude with Honors in Theater Arts (her major) from Brandeis University (1976).  While it may appear that she is a bit overeducated for her current occupation, you would be amazed how much that acting training and business coursework is actually useful in the retail world!

Bencey Bryan (aka "The Mom")

Prior to opening Larger Than Life, Bencey spent four years as Marketing Director for a small publishing company.  Before that, she worked in both inside and outside wholesale sales and customer service in the interior design industry, and in retail sales for women's clothing.  Being an Air Force wife until Kat graduated from college, Bencey moved her household 17 times in 23 years!

Kat says that Bencey taught her all she knows about color, cut, fabric and fashion.
